On-Site Mobile Crushing in Detroit, Michigan

Cornerstone Crushing brings portable crushing equipment directly to your Detroit-area project. We process concrete, asphalt, limestone, and other construction materials on-site, so you avoid costly trucking and landfill fees.

Metro Detroit runs on heavy construction. Freeway reconstruction along I-75, I-94, I-96, and I-696, continuous retooling of automotive and manufacturing plants, and steady demolition and redevelopment work across Wayne, Oakland, and Macomb counties generate enormous volumes of concrete and asphalt every season. Michigan’s freeze-thaw cycles add to the total, putting pavement and slabs on a shorter replacement clock than most of the country.

Cornerstone Crushing, LLC is part of the Geddis Paving & Exc., Inc. family of companies, with over 75 years of experience in construction and material recycling. Our Toledo yard sits roughly 60 miles south of downtown Detroit, which makes Southeast Michigan one of the shortest mobilizations we run. Michigan has been an established service state since our first crushing crews went out, and we process demolished concrete, reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP), limestone, and other aggregate directly at your site.

Cornerstone Crushing’s portable plant in the field, the same equipment that serves Indianapolis and the surrounding Indiana market.

Why contractors choose on-site crushing

Every ton of concrete or asphalt you truck off a demolition site in Detroit costs money: fuel, driver time, disposal fees, and the purchase of new aggregate to replace what you hauled away. On-site mobile crushing eliminates that double handling entirely.
Advantage WHAT IT MEANS FOR YOUR DETROIT PROJECT
Eliminate Hauling Costs Material is processed where it falls. No trucks hauling debris to an off-site facility, and none returning with purchased aggregate.
Reduce Disposal Fees Recycled concrete and asphalt stay out of Michigan landfills. They become reusable base course, pipe bedding, or fill material.
Custom Aggregate Sizes We produce gradations to your project spec, including MDOT dense-graded gradations for road base and other public works applications in Michigan.
Short Mobilization Our Toledo yard is about an hour from downtown Detroit, so equipment reaches Southeast Michigan sites quickly and mobilization stays affordable.
Save Site Space Debris stockpiles shrink into usable aggregate, freeing up workspace on tight Detroit infill lots and inside active plant footprints.
Environmental Compliance Fewer truck trips mean a reduced carbon footprint, a measurable sustainability benefit for public and institutional projects in Michigan.
Speed and Flexibility Our mobile crushers move to where the work is, whether that is a single Detroit demolition site or a multi-phase project across the tri-county area.

Detroit-Area Applications

Southeast Michigan generates crushable material across nearly every construction sector. Our crews are experienced working in the following environments.

Road construction and MDOT projects

MDOT rebuilds and county road agency work throughout Southeast Michigan routinely involve full-depth pavement removal, and Michigan winters keep that pipeline full. On-site mobile crushing lets contractors recycle RAP and concrete base material into MDOT-approved gradations, reducing material costs and supporting sustainability requirements on publicly funded work for MDOT, the Road Commission for Oakland County, the Macomb County Department of Roads, and Wayne County.

Automotive and industrial plant work

Metro Detroit’s manufacturing base is in constant motion. Plant expansions, floor replacements, line retooling, and supplier facility build-outs produce thick, heavily reinforced concrete that is expensive to truck out. Crushing inside the plant footprint turns that slab into base material for the same project and keeps haul trucks off a congested site.

Demolition and blight removal

Detroit has run one of the largest demolition and redevelopment programs in the country, and commercial corridors across Wayne County continue to turn over. Crushing foundations, slabs, and driveways on-site keeps material out of the landfill and produces backfill and base for the same parcel, which matters on tight residential and infill lots.

Large site development and logistics

Distribution centers, industrial parks, and campus developments along the I-275 and I-94 corridors, near Detroit Metro Airport, and across Oakland and Washtenaw counties frequently involve rock crushing and soil processing as part of mass grading. Bringing the crusher to the site avoids multiple handling cycles and keeps the project on schedule.

Municipal and public works

Cities throughout the tri-county area, including Warren, Sterling Heights, Livonia, Dearborn, Southfield, and Troy, maintain active public works programs for road resurfacing, water main and service line replacement, and utility corridor work. Mobile crushing supports these programs by recycling old pavement and aggregate in place.

About Cornerstone Crushing

Cornerstone Crushing, LLC was founded in 2012 as the material recycling and crushing division of Geddis Paving & Exc., Inc., a company with over 75 years of experience constructing roadways, parking lots, and large industrial sites across Ohio and the surrounding states.

Since 2012 we have grown to operate two full-time crushing crews with mobile plants that travel across Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky, and beyond. We serve ODOT, MDOT, county road commissions, municipalities, general contractors, industrial facilities, and commercial developers.

Our portable plants produce material meeting MDOT aggregate specifications, which makes recycled concrete and asphalt a legitimate substitute for virgin aggregate on Michigan road and infrastructure projects.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Cornerstone Crushing serve the Detroit, Michigan area?
Yes. Michigan is one of our established service states, and our Toledo yard sits roughly 60 miles from downtown Detroit. We mobilize crushing crews throughout Southeast Michigan, including Detroit, Dearborn, Livonia, Warren, Sterling Heights, Troy, Southfield, and the surrounding communities.
What materials can you crush on-site in Detroit?
Our mobile equipment processes concrete (including heavily reinforced plant floors and footings), reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP), limestone, sandstone, brick, and mixed construction and demolition debris directly on your Detroit-area job site.
Can the recycled aggregate meet MDOT specifications?
Yes. Our portable plants produce dense-graded aggregate gradations that meet Michigan DOT specifications for road base, pipe bedding, and other applications, which allows recycled material to be substituted directly for virgin aggregate on publicly funded Michigan projects.
How does mobile crushing compare to hauling material off-site?
On-site crushing almost always produces significant savings against traditional haul-and-dispose. You eliminate outbound haul fees, disposal tipping fees, and the cost of purchasing new aggregate, which often turns a net expense into a breakeven or cost-positive outcome. Call 419.260.3626 for a project-specific quote.
What is the minimum project size for mobile crushing in Detroit?
Mobile crushing is most cost-effective on larger volumes, typically 2,000 tons or more, because mobilization costs are spread across the total tonnage processed. Detroit is a short mobilization from our Toledo yard, so smaller projects are still worth a conversation. Call 419.260.3626 and we’ll give you an honest assessment of your situation.
How far in advance should I contact Cornerstone Crushing for a Detroit project?
Reach out as early in project planning as possible, ideally 4 to 8 weeks before you need equipment on-site. Our crews are in high demand during peak construction season, and early scheduling locks in the mobilization window that fits your timeline.
